Shohei Ohtani Hits First Career Leadoff Home Run
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani hit his first career leadoff home run (24th of the season) in the 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. It was also the hardest-hit (116.1 mph) leadoff homer by any player since Statcast was introduced in 2015. Ohtani's homer traveled an estimated 453 feet and was the 39th homer in Tropicana Field history to hit off the D-ring catwalk. It was the two-way star's second home run this year hit 116 mph or harder, tied for most in the majors. It was Ohtani's seventh long ball in his last nine games. He also has a 2.58 ERA in 11 starts on the mound this year and is a front-runner for American League MVP in 2021. Ohtani is a freak of nature and should be started each and every day. He could see the leadoff spot more often, too, with Justin Upton going on the injured list on Friday.
