Shohei Ohtani, Griffin Canning Throwing Live BP
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitchers Shohei Ohtani (elbow) and Griffin Canning (elbow) have each thrown three live batting practice sessions and are up to around 55 pitches. Both pitchers will remain at that level for now while the Players Union and MLB owners negotiate salaries and health concerns for a potential shortened 2020 season. Ohtani was expected to be ready around mid-June for a rotation spot following his recovery from Tommy John surgery, so he should be ready if the season were to start in early July. The Japanese two-way star is more valuable as a pitcher in fantasy, but he also should be owned in all leagues for his power/speed combination as a designated hitter. Canning dealt with issues to his UCL back in February and is trying to avoid the surgical route. Everything appears to be good for now, but the second-year hurler is a bit risky in shallow mixed leagues, especially in what would be a shortened season.
