Shohei Ohtani Establishes 50/50 Club
7 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani went 6-for-6 with three home runs, 10 RBI, and two stolen bases en route to becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and swipe 50 bags in a single season. This game was the culmination of the remarkable season the 30-year-old has had. Through his first season in Los Angeles, the two-time MVP winner has carried a stellar .293/.375/.624 slash line with 51 home runs and 51 stolen bases. Under the hood, he boasts an incredible 20.7% barrel rate, 59.3% hard-hit rate, and a 95.4 mph average exit velocity, which are the top marks in each statistic among qualified hitters. Despite only serving as a designated hitter this season, Ohtani has cemented himself as the front-runner for the NL MVP award after making history. Next season, Ohtani is expected to return to the mound as well and should be the consensus No. 1 pick in fantasy drafts next spring.

Shohei Ohtani Still Without Timeline To Face Live Hitters
2 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani (elbow) threw his first bullpen session since Feb. 25 last Saturday. According to manager Dave Roberts, the session went well, and Ohtani threw 25 fastballs. Ohtani was shut down from throwing for a period to build up as a hitter, but Roberts said the 30-year-old three-time MVP threw a light bullpen on Wednesday and is scheduled to throw a heavier one on Saturday in Philadelphia. However, even though Ohtani is throwing bullpens again, there's no timeline for when he'll face live hitters in simulated games. He's fully expected to pitch for the first time in a Dodgers uniform in 2025, but L.A. is in no rush to debut him on the mound with a fully healthy five-man rotation right now. The priority for the Dodgers is to have the ability to use Ohtani as both a pitcher and a hitter come October. Ohtani didn't pitch at all in 2024 after having Tommy John surgery in September of 2023.

Shohei Ohtani Blasts Walk-Off Home Run
3 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani collected three hits on Wednesday, including a walk-off home run, to elevate the Dodgers to a 6-5 victory over the Braves. The win brings Los Angeles to a league-leading 8-0 record, while it sent Atlanta spiraling down to 0-7 on the year. The homer was Ohtani's third of the season, and he is now batting .333 with three home runs, three RBI, 11 runs, and two stolen bases through eight games. He continues to show why he is one of the best players to ever step on the field and remains one of the best hitters in fantasy.

Shohei Ohtani Homers In Home Opener
1 week agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI, and a pair of runs scored in the Dodgers' 5-4 win over the Tigers on Thursday night. His home run proved to be a necessary insurance run after he tacked it on in the seventh inning off Tigers relief pitcher Brenan Hanifee. Ohtani hit his first homer of the season in the Tokyo series and is off to a strong start as he looks to follow up his monster season last year with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases. He hasn't attempted a stolen base yet this season but is 5-for-12 (.417) with three extra-base hits and a .606 wOBA in the very small sample size. So far this season, Ohtani looks ready to pick up right where he left off as the most productive slugger in baseball.

Shohei Ohtani To Throw On Saturday
2 weeks agoLos Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow, shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday. This will be the first time that Ohtani has thrown since Feb. 25. The Dodgers have been slowly bringing him along, so it's unclear exactly when he'll get back on the mound in game action. Ohtani is going to serve as the DH to begin the season, but it shouldn't be too long before he's mixed in for starts as well. The two-way superstar didn't pitch at all in 2024 in his first year with the Dodgers after having Tommy John surgery.
