Shane Greene Avoids Arbitration
7 years agoDetroit Tigers relief pitcher Shane Greene avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.95 million deal, according to a source. A few dominoes fell Greene's way in 2017, and he was given the closer's role on a rebuilding team, going 9-for-10 in save chances on the season. A converted starter, he also posted an impressive 2.66 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 9.7 K/9 with increased velocity in a relief role. However, Greene was fortunate with an 84.2 left-on-base rate despite walking a decent amount, so danger lurks. On top of that, his job security won't be very high. Greene will be a low-end closing option for fantasy owners.
