Sergio Romo Saves His 19th Game Tuesday
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays reliever Sergio Romo answered a few questions Tuesday versus Toronto. He would come in with 1 out in the ninth inning with two men on. It was his first save opportunity in several games which had lead to some questions about whether he might have quietly lost the job somehow. Romo would respond by retiring both batters he faced to earn his 19th save of the season. There is still some concern that other pitchers might get more opportunities down the stretch. In answer to why Romo had been used so rarely in the last several games, the manager simply explained that it has been based on the matchups. Owners may not be completely reassured but in most leagues, there simply are not many better options on the waiver wire so he should remain owned.
