Sergio Romo Picks Up Easy Save
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays closer Sergio Romo pitched a clean inning Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers to pick up his 11th save of the season. Romo struck out two in the 4-2 victory. The 35-year-old has been used in many roles this season but has settled in as the closer for manager Kevin Cash lately. His time as an "opener" this season could also have given him extra position eligibility depending on your league's settings. The Rays are winning more games lately and Romo is the one closing them all out. He is a trade candidate, but continue to use him while he is picking up saves.

Sergio Romo Signs Minor-League Deal With Giants
2 years agoThe San Francisco Giants agreed to a minor-league deal with free-agent relief pitcher Sergio Romo on Thursday that will include an invite to major-league spring training. If all goes according to plan, the Giants will work with Romo to build up his arm strength to appear in a couple exhibition games before calling it a career. The 40-year-old right-hander said he hasn't done anything since last September. Romo will return to the team that he won three World Series championships with, spending the first nine seasons of his career with the Giants. In his 15-year career, Romo had a 3.21 ERA (3.33 FIP), 1.05 WHIP, 137 saves and a 27 percent strikeout rate in 722 2/3 innings pitched in the regular season.

Sergio Romo Becomes A Free Agent
3 years agoVeteran reliever Sergio Romo has cleared waivers. He has chosen to refuse his outright assignment to Triple-A, electing for free agency instead. The 39-year-old was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays this past Saturday. The Jays were the second team to DFA him this year after his first club of 2022, the Seattle Mariners, DFA'd him in late June. It's been a rough year for the right-hander, who has pitched to a 7.50 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP across 18 innings.

Sergio Romo Designated For Assignment By Toronto
3 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays designated relief pitcher Sergio Romo for assignment on Saturday after they acquired left-hander Foster Griffin from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right-hander Jonatan Bernal. The Blue Jays also recalled right-hander Jeremy Beasley from Triple-A Buffalo. After being signed in late June, Romo appeared in six games for the Blue Jays and allowed two earned runs on a home run while walking two and striking out three in 3 2/3 innings of work. In total this year, he has a 7.50 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 18 innings with the Jays and Seattle Mariners. Even if the 39-year-old reliever lands with his third team in 2022, he'll be well off the fantasy radar.

Sergio Romo Joins Blue Jays
3 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays signed free-agent relief pitcher Sergio Romo to an undisclosed major league contract on Monday, according to league sources. Romo was granted his release by the Seattle Mariners last week after allowing 13 earned runs on 18 hits (six home runs allowed) while walking four and striking out 11 in 14 1/3 innings over 17 relief appearances for the Mariners. The 39-year-old veteran is nearing the end of his career and is unlikely to have much more than a low-leverage role out of Toronto's bullpen if he sticks in the majors the rest of this year.
