Sergio Romo Heads To Mariners
3 years agoFree-agent relief pitcher Sergio Romo agreed to a one-year deal with a base salary of $2 million with the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, pending a physical. Romo will receive a $250,000 bonus. The 39-year-old veteran reliever will stick in the big leagues for his 15th major league season in 2022. He had a 4.67 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 60 strikeouts, 21 walks and three saves in 61 2/3 relief outings for the Oakland Athletics in 2021. Romo also had 12 holds in his 66 appearances. Seattle currently has Drew Steckenrider and Paul Sewald as co-closers, while Diego Castillo and Ken Giles will serve as setup men. It's hard to see Romo having a ton of fantasy value outside of deep holds leagues as a middle-relief option in Seattle.
