Sergio Romo Agrees With Marlins
6 years agoThe Miami Marlins agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million deal with free-agent relief pitcher Sergio Romo on Tuesday, according to a league source. The soon-to-be 35-year-old was a versatile piece for Tampa last year, posting a 4.14 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 25 saves while also serving as an opener five times. The slider-heavy right-hander has a nice 10.1 career K/9 and should challenge Drew Steckenrider for ninth-inning duties this year. The rebuilding Marlins don't figure to have many save chances, though, and there's no guarantee yet that Romo will even win the job over Steckenrider. He's a late-round speculation for saves in deeper leagues, at best.
