7 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies' playoff chances are looking bleaker by the day and Tuesday night's game against the Washington Nationals felt like a major blow. The club, coming off a loss in the first game of the day, held a 6-3 lead heading into the ninth inning. Seranthony Dominguez, who first entered the game in the eighth inning, surrendered three runs in the ninth, watching the tying run come around to score from the dugout after getting pulled. While he wasn't charged with the blown save, his performance clearly was the main factor. The rookie wasn't effective and was undisciplined, walking three batters.--RDelgado

8 months agoBaltimore Orioles right-hander Seranthony Dominguez got the final three outs of a 4-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday to earn a save. Dominguez did not allow a run while striking out one and walking one on 19 pitches in the frame. The veteran closer now has three saves in four chances this season, to go along with a 4.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 45 innings of work split between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Orioles. Dominguez getting the save chance (his second in five days) is notable as regular closer Craig Kimbrel has struggled recently. This situation is worth monitoring moving forward, although Dominguez should have some fantasy value regardless of whether he's getting save chances.--Matt T - RotoBaller

10 months agoPhiladelphia Phillies reliever Seranthony Dominguez earned his first save of the season in Friday's 5-3 victory over the Orioles. Dominguez picked this one up in the 11th inning after usual closers Jose Alvarado and Jeff Hoffman had already been used. After starting the season with a 7.71 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over his first 16 appearances, Friday's outing marked the righty's 10th straight scoreless appearance in which he's posted a 0.00 ERA, 0.52 WHIP, and a 2:7 BB:K. Dominguez has been good of late, but don't count on too many more save chances unless something were to happen to Alvarado and Hoffman.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez earned his second save of the week and year as he protected a two-run lead in the ninth frame versus the Miami Marlins Thursday. The 28-year-old was one of just two relievers that were not used in Wednesday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to Miami. Dominguez, this season has a record of 2-2 and a 4.45 ERA in 36 appearances. In 30/1 innings pitched, the right-hander has struck out 32 opposing team batters.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBaller

2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez earned his first save of the season in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Marlins. Dominguez came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by two and turned in a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout to end the game. Closer Craig Kimbrel had pitched in each of the last two games, so Dominguez got the call to close this one out. The 26-year-old has pitched just 29 1/3 innings this season due to injury and has posted a lackluster 4.60 ERA with five blown saves. His fantasy value is very limited now that Kimbrel has clearly taken over the closer's role for the Phillies.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller
