Semyon Varlamov Shuts Down Avalanche
5 years agoNew York Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov recorded his second shutout of the season as his team captured a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Long Island on Monday. Facing his former team for the first time since signing a four-year contract with the Islanders this past summer, Varlamov was perfect, stopping all 32 shots thrown at him in the contest. While the win was assuredly great for his psyche, Varlamov's strong performance also improved his stellar season-long numbers to a 2.30 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage in 27 games played. Playing in a tight defensive system under Isles head coach Barry Trotz, the 31-year-old should be considered a top-10 fantasy option in net moving forward. He'll back up fellow netminder Thomas Greiss on the second night of a back-to-back in New Jersey on Tuesday.
