Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho is closing in on a long-term contract extension with the team, according to general manager Don Waddell. The Finnish star has one season remaining on a five-year, $42.27 million contract he signed in 2019 when Carolina matched an offer sheet he received from Montreal. Aho has been killing it throughout the deal, leading the team in goals every year and also topping the scoring chart every campaign until Martin Necas pipped him in 2022-23. "We're working on it, getting close," Waddell said. "Not there yet, but we are talking on a regular basis, almost daily, so I'm hoping that we can get this to the finish line here in the next week or so." Waddell added that Aho wants to be a Hurricane player "for life". Since making his debut in 2016-17, Aho has totaled 218 goals and 250 assists in 520 games with Carolina, developing into an elite fantasy asset.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
