Scott Barlow Earns His Third Save On Friday
3 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Scott Barlow was called upon to close out the team's 7-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Friday. Barlow pitched a perfect ninth inning, allowing no hits or walks while striking out one. He earned his third save of the year. Save opportunities have been tough to come by lately for the Royals, who had lost nine straight before Friday's win. Greg Holland had earned the team's last two saves, but he was used in the eighth inning of this game. Barlow has been the Royals' most effective reliever this year by all measures. He has a 2.04 ERA and 1.21 WHIP to go along with a 34.5% strikeout rate. He has 11 holds on the year as the team has mostly used him in a setup role. It's hard to know exactly how things will shape up going forward, but Holland will likely remain the primary closer for now with Barlow and a few others getting some opportunities to close out games here and there.
