Sam Darnold Signs Rookie Deal
6 years agoNew York Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold agreed to a four-year, $30.25 million fully guaranteed contract on Monday, according to a source informed of the situation. The deal includes a fifth-year option. He will battle with Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater, but Darnold is currently third on the depth chart and has work to do if he wants to be under center in Week 1. "Josh is 1, Teddy is 2. Sam is 3," head coach Todd Bowles said. "The competition has been underway. It didn't start today. It started Thursday when we reported for camp. He's got some work to catch up and do. So over the course of the preseason, that'll take of itself and we'll go from there." Darnold may be the closest to starting of all the rookie QBs this year, but that's not saying much for his redraft value on a suspect Jets offense.
