Sabres Ink Carter Hutton To Three-Year Deal
6 years agoOne of their more promising signings on day one of free agency, the Buffalo Sabres agreed to a three-year deal with free agent goaltender Carter Hutton. Hutton had a career year last season with St. Louis, posting a league-best 2.09 goals against average. He finished with a 17-7-3 record sharing the crease with Jake Allen, but ultimately stole the starter’s crease from Allen for much of the campaign. Hutton’s decision to sign in Buffalo was aided by his recognizing a core group of young talent, and his familiarity with the coaching staff, most notable Phil Housley; they spent time together in Nashville. Hutton is looking forward to an opportunity to fill a starting role, and also provide young goaltender Linus Ullmark with guidance as he prepares to make the jump from the AHL. Buffalo doesn’t look poised to make a huge jump in the standings this season, but does have a few intriguing pieces in the lineup. Hutton will get regular play time, but his statistics should regress from that of last season.
