Ryne Stanek Injures His Ankle Monday
1 year agoHouston Astros relief pitcher Ryne Stanek (ankle) injured his ankle while covering first base on Monday in the game against the Texas Rangers and was eventually carted off the field. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time, but the fact that he was carted off the diamond probably means he's at least going to land on the injured list. Although the 32-year-old isn't the team's closer, an extended absence to close out the regular season would be tough on Houston's bullpen. Stanek came into Monday's game with a 3.88 ERA (4.20 FIP), 1.23 WHIP, 21 walks and 49 strikeouts in 48 2/3 relief innings in 2023. He had allowed an earned run on two hits (one homer) with no walks or K's without recording an out on Monday to raise his ERA to 4.07 on the year.
