Ryan Yarbrough Shines In Simulated Game
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Yarbrough made an impression in Wednesday's simulated game as he works to earn a permanent spot in the starting rotation. The left-hander faced Willy Adames, Brandon Lowe, Ji-Man Choi and Mike Zunino and looked sharp, striking out three and giving up just one hit in 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Yarbrough has 27 wins in 66 appearances in his first two full seasons, but it's his versatility that stands out. The southpaw made 14 relief outings in 2019 as the "bulk guy" out of the bullpen and another 14 starts. Yarbrough doesn't throw gas or miss a ton of bats, but his ability to keep hitters off balance is what makes him valuable. There's a chance he could start the year in the rotation, but he's also likely to be used as a bulk guy at times as well. Yarbrough won't have a ton of upside in the shortened season, but he'll give owners added flexibility with as a starter or reliever.
