Ryan Weathers Notches Victory Despite Uneven Outing
3 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Ryan Weathers earned his fourth victory Tuesday against the Washington Nationals, serving four earned runs in 5 ⅓ innings. Weathers battled through 71 pitches, permitting seven hits including two homers while striking out two and walking none. Fortunately, his starting counterpart Erick Fedde was slightly worse and Weathers managed the win. Now a fixture as the Friars fifth starter with Dinelson Lamet (forearm) out indefinitely, the 21-year-old rookie owns a respectable 3.01 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 56 ⅔ frames. His suboptimal stuff is reflected in a modest 18 percent strikeout rate and he should be reserved to only deeper NL-only and dynasty leagues. He'll get the ball Sunday at home against the Colorado Rockies before the All-Star break.
