Ryan Weathers Makes Padres Roster
4 years agoSan Diego Padres manager Jayce Tingler confirmed pitching prospect Ryan Weathers will make the Opening day roster. Despite a 7.11 ERA this spring, the 21-year-old was increasingly likely to crack the squad due to a plethora of injuries to the Friars bullpen. The team's No. 5 prospect will operate as a swingman but could earn opportunities to start if current backend starters Chris Paddack or Adrian Morejon struggle. Weathers upped his fastball velocity last year and made his big league debut in the playoffs with 1 ⅓ scoreless frames. With three solid pitches and strong command, Weathers' dynasty stock takes a leap with the announcement and he could merit NL-only value if he manages to carve out a permanent role.
