Ryan Helsley Testing His Finger Thursday
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley (finger), who suffered a jammed middle finger on his right hand in the regular season finale on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, is scheduled to throw during Thursday's workout to test his grip on the baseball. He was examined by the team's medical staff Thursday morning. Hopefully for the Cardinals, the 28-year-old reliever will get cleared to play in the Wild-Card Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, which begins on Friday in St. Louis. If Helsley isn't available on Friday or doesn't make the Wild-Card roster at all, Giovanny Gallegos would likely be the team's first option to close out any games this weekend against the Phillies.
