Ryan Gusto Named Pacific League Pitcher Of The Week
3 months agoHouston Astros starting pitching prospect Ryan Gusto was named Pacific League Pitcher of the Week after tossing 14 shutout frames. Through his two starts, the right-hander allowed seven combined hits with only two free passes. He struck out 12 batters. Gusto has been gaining momentum at Triple-A since June, as he posted a stellar 1.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 23 innings. Then, in July, the 25-year-old held a 1.15 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP through 31 frames of work. Overall, through his first 102 innings at the Triple-A level, the former 11th-round pick has posted a 3.88 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. However, his recent production over the past few months suggests Gusto has taken a significant step forward in his development. Given his current play, Gusto is a candidate to reach the major leagues later this season.
