Royals Unlikely To Trade Whit Merrifield
6 years agoThe Kansas City Royals are unlikely to trade second baseman Whit Merrifield this offseason. Merrifield is a core player and led baseball in hits and steals in 2018 while also playing five different positions. He also has four more years of club control. Trading Merrifield away would also signal a full-on rebuild in KC, something general manager Dayton Moore does not want to do. Merrifield doesn't have a lot of power (12 homers in 2018), but he makes a lot of contact, hits for a high average (.304) and can run (45 stolen bases). Along with his positional versatility, Merrifield is an extremely attractive fantasy Swiss Army knife.
