Royals Unlikely To Trade Whit Merrifield This Summer
5 years agoThe Kansas City Royals are unlikely to trade super utilityman Whit Merrifield this summer. “I’m still the same on that,” general manager Dayton Moore told MLB.com on Thursday. “It’s our job to do our due diligence with any proposal and listen. But we’re motivated to keeping our good players here.” KC signed him to a four-year, $16.25 million deal in January to wipe away his remaining arbitration years. Merrifield can do it all on the baseball field and is hitting .301/.347/.502 with 10 home runs, 52 runs, 39 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 74 games for a bad Royals team. A trade to a contender would probably boost his fantasy value, but his fantasy owners haven't been complaining with his elite production the last few years.
