1 year agoThe Kansas City Royals selected Texas high school catcher Blake Mitchell with the eighth pick in the first round of the 2023 MLB draft. Mitchell was committed to national champion Louisiana State, but is most likely headed into the Royals system, where he could be the eventual player to take over behind the plate for Salvador Perez. Mitchell has the best defensive catching grades of any catcher, high school or pro, in this season's draft. He can also throw upper-90s off the mound and was considered by multiple teams as a two-way player.--Benjamin Chase
