Rougned Odor Goes Yard Wednesday
4 years agoNew York Yankees second baseman Rougned Odor clubbed his eighth homer of the season in Wednesday's victory over the Kansas City Royals. Odor's homer was a big one, as it gave the Yankees the lead in the eighth inning. The blast traveled 406 feet at 109 MPH. Odor is slashing just .196/.268/.406 with eight homers and 17 RBI in 44 games while striking out 41 times. He can be safely avoided in season-long formats, though he makes for an interesting DFS play if he starts with a lefty on the mound, given his .845 OPS against southpaws this season compared to .606 against righties.

Rougned Odor Heads To Japan
1 year agoFree-agent second baseman Rougned Odor has signed with the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball on Saturday. Odor will take his talents overseas to Japan after playing 59 games in the big leagues for the San Diego Padres in 2023, where he slashed a weak .203/.299/.355 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 157 plate appearances before he was released in July. The 29-year-old left-handed slugger never made it back to the big leagues with another team to close out 2023. Odor will go to Japan hoping that a solid season overseas will get big-league teams interested in him again in 2025. Over 10 years in the majors with the Padres, Rangers, Yankees and Orioles, Odor has hit .230/.288/.422 with 178 home runs and 568 RBI in 1,154 career games.

Rougned Odor Released By Padres
2 years agoThe San Diego Padres officially released infielder Rougned Odor on Monday after designating him for assignment last week. Now on the free-agent market, Odor will be able to sign with any team after hitting just .210/.306/.370 with four home runs, 10 doubles, 18 RBI, two steals and 21 runs scored in 157 trips to the plate and 59 games for the Friars this year. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter could latch on with another team on a minor-league deal, but there's no guarantee that he'll make it back to the big leagues again this year. If he does, it will most likely be as a part-time infielder in matchups against right-handed pitchers.

Luis Campusano Activated, Rougned Odor DFA'd, Austin Nola Optioned
2 years agoThe San Diego Padres activated catcher Luis Campusano (thumb) from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. In corresponding moves, the Padres designated infielder Rougned Odor for assignment and optioned catcher Austin Nola and infielder/outfielder Brandon Dixon to Triple-A El Paso. Campusano had surgery to fix a torn ligament in his left thumb on May 12, but he'll now return to split playing time at catcher and designated hitter with Gary Sanchez. The 24-year-old has hit just .198 with three homers in 35 big-league games so far, so he's not an immediate add in two-catcher formats. Odor will likely clear waivers after hitting .210 with four homers and 18 RBI in 59 games for the Friars. Nola will go down to the farm after going just 19-for-130 (.146) in 52 games in 2023 at the major-league level.

Rougned Odor Hitting Out Of The Leadoff Spot Monday
2 years agoSan Diego Padres second baseman Rougned Odor (groin) is hitting out of the leadoff spot Monday night against right-hander Kyle Hendricks and the visiting Chicago Cubs. It's just the second start out of the leadoff spot this season for the veteran, who has bounced back nicely in his first season with the Friars. Odor's bat has been well below league average in each season since 2017, but his four homers, two stolen bases, 10.1% walk rate, and improved 20.2% strikeout rate have helped him to a 101 wRC+ that puts him a single hair above the league average. He dodged an injured-list stint himself and is taking the leadoff spot from Xander Bogaerts, who is out for the second straight game due to a wrist injury.
