Ronny Mauricio Enters Second Half On High Note
1 year agoNew York Mets shortstop prospect Ronny Mauricio enters the second half of the season on a high note with a .302 batting average to go along with 12 homers, 47 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 321 at-bats for Triple-A Syracuse. Mauricio, 22, has been a hot topic this season, but the Mets have yet to give him a promotion. With the Mets having the opposite first half of the season than expected, they will need to shake things up to get rolling in the second half and Mauricio could be a part of those plans. With Francisco Lindor entrenched at shortstop, Mauricio has gotten playing time around the infield and outfield for Syracuse. Mauricio's easiest path to playing time would be second base with Jeff McNeil coming off a forgettable first half. He could also play the outfield with a combination of Tommy Pham, Mark Canha or Starling Marte getting at-bats as a designated hitter. Regardless, Mauricio has a good shot to get an opportunity at some point down the stretch and his speed and power will be hard to pass on in most formats.
