Rogerio Bontorin Scores A Big Decision Win
4 years agoIn dire need of a victory after dropping his last two bouts, Rogerio Bontorin (17-3) took the unanimous decision from top-10 flyweight Matt Schnell on Saturday. The bout was contested at the bantamweight limit of 135 pounds, with Bontorin actually weighing in high at 137 pounds. Schnell still took the fight and Bontorin showcased his power advantage, landing the bigger strikes of the two competitors throughout the night. Statistically, Bontorin landed 72 significant strikes (89 total strikes) along with landing his lone takedown. Though Schnell out-struck Bontorin statistically, Bontorin's strikes were much more damaging. How much of that can we contribute to the rise in weight class in addition to Bontorin missing weight?
