Rockies Reach Deal With Pierce Johnson
2 years agoThe Colorado Rockies agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with right-hander Pierce Johnson on Tuesday. Johnson will help bolster the team's right-handed relief corps. The 31-year-old went to high school in Colorado before going to Missouri State and becoming a first-round selection by the Cubs in 2012. He posted a 5.02 ERA with 21 strikeouts and eight walks in 14 1/3 relief innings for the San Diego Padres. Johnson was out from late April until September due to right-elbow tendonitis. In five big-league seasons, he has gone 10-9 with a 4.05 ERA in 140 appearances. Johnson held a key role with the Friars in 2020 and 2021, going 6-5 with a 3.09 ERA, 104 K's and 36 walks in 78 2/3 frames. He won't have much fantasy value, if any, in most leagues.
