Richmond May Interrupt Justin Haley's Run of Consistency
8 months agoAlthough Justin Haley posted the slowest qualifying speed in the field at Richmond yesterday--even slower than his Xfinity Series regular teammate, Riley Herbst--his plodding, methodical style and Chris Lawson's traditionally brilliant strategy have combined to almost always give Haley better finishes than his average running position, as he seems significantly faster at the end of a race than he ever is in qualifying. However, Haley still drives for Rick Ware Racing and this is one of his worst tracks. Haley has an average finish of 29.4 at Richmond and has never finished better than 21st in the Cup Series at this track. He's never even scored a lead lap finish and has finished multiple laps down every time but once. He'll probably still run better than he qualified, but the odds of another sneaky top-20 result seem unlikely.

Justin Haley Earns First Non-Drafting Oval Top-10 Finish For Spire Motorsports
7 days agoAfter a string of futility in his first half-season as a Spire Motorsports driver, Justin Haley earned his first top-10 finish on a non-drafting oval at Homestead on Sunday. In a race that had relatively little attrition, Haley started 21st and steadily worked his way through the pack during the race, finishing 15th at the end of Stage 1 and 20th in Stage 2 before he made a solid charge from 15th to 10th after the restart following Ryan Blaney's engine failure. This marks the second consecutive week that Haley has been the highest-finishing Spire driver in a race, and his finish moved him up four positions in points to 24th. However, it doesn't look like he will be seriously contending for wins anytime soon.

Justin Haley Hoping For A Better Result At Homestead This Time
1 week agoThe last time the NASCAR Cup Series was at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Justin Haley had a day to forget. After having a solid qualifying effort and starting 10th, Haley got spun on the first lap of the race (while running in sixth) and ultimately ended up finishing 34th when it was all said and done and spinning again later in the race. Don't let those mishaps stop you from considering Haley in your DraftKings lineups this time around, though. At $6,400 on the DFS site, Haley is a pretty cheap option with decent upside. He qualified 21st for Sunday's Straight Talk Wireless 400 and showed good speed in practice, ending up sixth-quickest in 25-lap average. Last weekend at Las Vegas, Haley rebounded from a 33rd-place starting spot to finish 14th at Las Vegas, and if the No. 7 Chevrolet has the same speed during the race as it did in practice, it wouldn't be overly surprising to see Haley contend for a top-10 finish. He's a tournament option to consider being overweight on in DraftKings this weekend.

Spire Speed Suggests Justin Haley Is A Strong DFS Option
2 weeks agoIn a puzzling qualifying session, Michael McDowell won the pole while his Spire Motorsports teammates Carson Hocevar and Justin Haley only qualified 25th and 33rd, respectively. Nonetheless, based on qualifying, Spire has seemed to have an uptick in speed this year and Spire at least is a Hendrick Motorsports satellite at a track where HMS frequently dominates. Even though Haley has generally underachieved since he took over the No. 7 Spire car late last year, it seems he likely has a lot of value since he earned top-20 finishes in four of the five Next Gen-era races in which he didn't have a Rick Ware car. In three of those, he had top-20 average running positions. When you also consider that Corey LaJoie had a 13th-place ARP last year, Haley is likely one of the best DFS underdog plays.

Justin Haley's Car Faster Than He Is At Phoenix
3 weeks agoJustin Haley seems to have lucked out that the Spire Motorsports cars are significantly faster than they were last season (and even faster than the Rick Ware cars he had last year), but it doesn't seem to have much to do with him. Carson Hocevar and Michael McDowell have looked faster all year, and Saturday was no exception, as he qualified a seemingly impressive eighth until you realize both of his teammates still outqualified him. Haley is good at finishing races, but he doesn't seem to have a very high ceiling. While he's certainly never had a car as fast as this one, and he is usually good at improving through the field, he has also only placed better than 24th once in 2022 and has never led a lap. Haley will likely finish significantly worse than he starts, and therefore is a very weak DFS option.
