Redskins Have Discussed Cam Newton
5 years agoThe Washington Redskins have discussed the idea of trading for Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, according to sources, but talks didn't rise to the level of definitive interest at this time. The team is more in a "wait-and-see mode" while watching Newton's trade market, and the Redskins also like their young options, particularly Dwayne Haskins. Haskins would probably benefit from learning behind Newton, but the team is also in rebuilding mode and needs to see what he can do as the full-time starter. Newton's days in Carolina are numbered after the team gave Teddy Bridgewater starter money on Tuesday on a three-year deal. Newton's health is the biggest issue, as he played in just two games last year due to foot issues and ended the 2018 season with a bum shoulder. There's bounce-back potential if he lands in the right situation, but there just aren't many starting jobs available. Even if he lands a starting gig somewhere, Newton will be a QB2 in 2020.
