Red Sox Planning To Spend Big In Free Agency?
1 month agoUSA TODAY's Bob Nightengale writes that the Boston Red Sox are talking a big game this offseason and plan to be involved in the bidding for all of the top free agents. They have missed the postseason three straight years and have last-place finishes in the tough American League East five times since 2014. Boston has already met with superstar outfielder Juan Soto and would like to sign two of free-agent starters Corbin Burnes, Max Fried or Blake Snell. The BoSox also have strong interest in shortstop Willy Adames, who is willing to move to third base. They've discussed moving Rafael Devers off the hot corner and could also sign Alex Bregman or trade for Cardinals All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado. In order to do all of this, they'll probably need to free up money by dumping outfielder Masataka Yoshida and the $55.6 million left on his current contract.
