Red Sox Meet With Alex Cora
4 years agoThe Boston Red Sox met with former manager Alex Cora in Puerto Rico last week as they continue to search for their next manager, according to a source. Chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom and general manager Brian O'Halloran met with Cora, who mutually parted ways with Boston in January due to his involvement in the Astros sign-stealing scandal. Cora led Boston to a franchise-record 108 wins in 2018, and the team went on to win the World Series later that year. He's one of five candidates for the job, with the others including Pirates bench coach Don Kelly, Phillies director of integrative baseball performance Sam Fuld, Marlins bench coach James Rowson and Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza. Cora is believed to be the favorite because he's the only candidate with major league managerial experience, and he has strong relationships with Red Sox ownership.
