Red Sox Likely To Have Interest In Kelvin Herrera
6 years agoThe Boston Red Sox may be in need of a closer next year if free-agent Craig Kimbrel doesn't return, and they could look to free-agent reliever Kelvin Herrera (foot). General manager Dave Dombrowski tried to trade for Herrera at the trade deadline last summer. Herrera tore the Lisfranc ligament in his left foot on Aug. 26 and was only just recently cleared for light jogging last week. He's scheduled to travel to D.C. next week for an examination, with the plan to resume baseball activities in January if he hasn't suffered a setback. The veteran reliever had a nice .244 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 17 saves in 48 outings for the Royals and Nationals and has 60 career saves, so he has the experience. If he signs with Boston as their closer, Herrera will have some nice fantasy appeal after the big closing names come off the board.
