Red Sox Designate Eric Hosmer For Assignment
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox designated first baseman Eric Hosmer for assignment on Friday. Hosmer was traded from the San Diego Padres to the Red Sox at the Aug. 2 deadline, but there's a good chance he won't be returning to the organization in 2023. The 33-year-old hit a combined .268/.334/.382 with a .716 OPS, eight home runs, 44 RBI and 38 runs scored in a combined 104 games with the Friars and BoSox in 2022. He barely played down the stretch for Boston due to a back injury and will likely be looking for work on the open market soon. At his position, Hosmer is hard to get behind in fantasy because of his lack of pop. Triston Casas should be expected to see most of the playing time at first base in Beantown in 2023.
