Rays Release Jose Lopez
1 year agoThe Tampa Bay Rays released rookie left-hander Jose Lopez on Monday. The move comes after the Rays designated Lopez for assignment and off the 40-man roster last week, and now he'll be available to sign with any other team on the free-agent market. The 24-year-old Dominican southpaw made his big-league debut this year with Tampa and gave up an earned run on three hits while walking one and striking out two in two relief innings on June 10 against the Texas Rangers. Lopez wasn't any good at Triple-A Durham this year either, posting a bloated 7.89 ERA, 1.95 WHIP, two saves, 19 walks and 32 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings over 27 appearances (one start). He'll look for work elsewhere on a minor-league deal.
