Rays Interested In Edwin Encarnacion, Yandy Diaz
6 years agoThe Cleveland Indians are willing to listen to trade offers for designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion and infielder Yandy Diaz. It would be somewhat of a backup plan if they are unwilling to find the right return for either starting pitchers Corey Kluber or Trevor Bauer this winter. The Tampa Bay Rays have asked about both players. Encarnacion will be 36 next month and remains a strong middle-of-the-order power presence, but he's entering the final year of his three-year, $60 million deal. He hit .246 with 32 home runs and 107 RBI last year but is becoming more of an injury risk in both real life and in fantasy and his strikeouts continue to pile up as he ages. Diaz hit .312 with five doubles, one homer and 16 RBI in 39 games for the Tribe and is more of a utility infield option. However, he would probably have a more direct path to playing time in Tampa. If Diaz is traded, the Indians could move Jose Ramirez back to third base and use Jason Kipnis at the keystone.
