The Washington Capitals and defenseman Rasmus Sandin have agreed to a five-year, $23 million contract extension. The deal comes just one day before his 24th birthday as Sandin was scheduled to be a restricted free agent at season's end. "I'm very excited," Sandin said. "I'm very happy it got done at this time too, even though we have a lot of time left to work with. But very happy it got done and very excited to be here for ultimately five more years. He has three goals and 20 points on 66 shots across 52 games in his first full season with the Capitals.--Brenton Kemp
