Rangers Planning To Give Qualifying Offer To Martin Perez
2 years agoThe Texas Rangers are planning to give left-hander Martin Perez the $19.65 million qualifying offer by the deadline on Thursday. It makes sense after Perez had the best season of his career in 2022, going 12-8 with a career-low 2.89 ERA (3.26 FIP), a 1.26 WHIP, a career-high 169 strikeouts and 69 walks in 196 1/3 innings over 32 starts in his first year in Texas. The 31-year-old southpaw starter also finished the year strong, posting five quality starts in his final six outings. He made the All-Star team for the first time in his 11-year big-league career, and it will be interesting to see if the 31-year-old veteran will accept the offer to return for another season in Texas.
