Rangers Aggressively Pursuing Jordan Hicks
1 year agoThe Texas Rangers are aggressively pursuing relief pitcher Jordan Hicks. He'll be a free agent at the end of this season and will be moved only if the Cardinals can't sign him to a contract extension before Tuesday's trade deadline. Hicks and the Cardinals were reportedly close to agreeing on a contract extension several days ago, but apparently they haven't reached the finish line yet. If the Rangers do land Hicks, he'd be joining a closing situation in Texas that already includes lefties William Smith and Aroldis Chapman. Meanwhile in St. Louis, Giovanny Gallegos would most likely become the favorite for saves for the Cards the rest of the season if they trade Hicks away. The hard-throwing 26-year-old has eight saves, a 3.67 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 59 strikeouts in 41 2/3 relief innings in 2023.
