Raisel Iglesias Receives Qualifying Offer From Angels
3 years agoLos Angeles Angels closer Raisel Iglesias received a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer from the team on Sunday. If Iglesias declines the offer and signs with another team in free agency, the Angels will receive draft-pick compensation. The 31-year-old had a career year in 2021 with 34 saves, a 2.57 ERA, 103 strikeouts and 12 walks in 70 innings pitched for the Halos. Iglesias has 134 saves, a 2.86 ERA and 395 strikeouts in 308 innings pitched in the last five seasons and has been one of the most reliable closers in baseball in that time. If the right-hander rejects the deal, the Angels could still try to re-sign him, as they don't really have any internal options for the ninth-inning role. Iglesias also pitched more than one inning 16 times in 2021.
