Quinn Mathews Strikes Out Nine Wednesday
4 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Quinn Mathews threw six innings of one-run ball on Wednesday for Double-A Springfield, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters. The 23-year-old has shown impressive strikeout stuff across three levels of the minors this season, posting a 2.67 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 140 strikeouts in 101 innings pitched. His ERA has been somewhat elevated through five starts at Double-A (4.05), but that can be attributed mostly to just one poor outing in which he allowed six earned runs. Based on his stuff and quick ascension through the minors after being drafted in 2023, it's not unreasonable to think he'll be in the majors at some point next season. Dynasty managers should already be stashing the lefty.
