Phillies Interested In Dellin Betances, Austin Romine
5 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies are interested in relief pitcher Dellin Betances and catcher Austin Romine, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The Phillies have also been linked to shortstop Didi Gregorius. It makes more sense now that manager Joe Girardi, who coached this trio with the Yankees, is the skipper of the Phillies. Betances, an All-Star from 2014-17, suffered a right shoulder impingement in spring training and an oblique injury in June, limiting him to facing just two hitters in 2019. He then suffered a partial tear in his Achilles, so it was a lost season. When healthy, though, Betances has proven to be one of the most dominant relievers in baseball, and he could have a chance at saves in 2020 if he's healthy and lands in Philly. Romine is considered a solid backup catcher. He'd have minimal value if he's just depth for J.T. Realmuto with the Phillies.
