Phillies Eyeing Madison Bumgarner
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies have been doing due diligence on San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner since spring training, according to MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi. The 29-year-old left-hander will be a free agent after this year and could become available if the Giants fall out of contention, which is expected. Aaron Nola and Jake Arrieta headline Philly's rotation, but Nick Pivetta, Zach Eflin and Vince Velasquez are unproven behind them. Their staff ERA is 5.09 through 11 games of the season. Bumgarner's velocity and performance have slipped in recent seasons, partially due to injuries, but he can still be effective. He's 0-2 on the year with a 3.32 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 16 K's in 19 innings over three starts. While he'd have a better offense backing him in Philly, he'd also be moving from a great pitcher's park to a strong hitter's park.
