Philip Rivers Wants To Keep Playing
5 years agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said that he still wants to play next season. "I'm capable enough physically and mentally, there's no question," Rivers said after Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Oakland Raiders. "Yes, I do want to play football. I do, and that's how I feel deep down as I stand here." The 38-year-old will still take some time after the season to discuss things with his family, but the decision will ultimately come down to the Chargers front office. Rivers is third in passing yards through 16 weeks, but his 18 interceptions also rank second most behind Jameis Winston, and Rivers has 24 turnovers this year, the most turnovers he's had since 2016. Rivers will likely be back in 2020, but the Chargers will certainly be looking for their future signal-caller in the draft. He'll be a QB2 in the season finale against Kansas City.
