Peyton Barber Ahead Of Ronald Jones II?
5 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers running back Peyton Barber, who led the team last year with 871 rushing yards and five touchdowns, has gotten first-team carries ahead of Ronald Jones II this preseason. Barber is good at getting yards after contact and is more trustworthy with the ball in his hands. Jones was gaining steam after a strong spring, but he has yet to supplant Barber as the lead back despite having a nice camp and averaging 4.2 yards per carry on six attempts. Jones will be a game-time decision for Friday's third preseason game after hyperextending his knee in the second preseason game. Jones is using his hands better and is more confident between the tackles after gaining weight in the offseason, but he's also had some busts in blitz pickups this preseason and continues to work on his route running. Jones should improve in Year 2 after a terrible rookie season and he should see plenty of playing time next to Barber, but Barber is still slightly more attractive as an RB3/flex option.
