Peter Alonso Wins Home Run Derby
5 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Peter Alonso brushed off a slow start to the Home Run Derby Monday and took home the trophy with a clutch final two rounds. Alonso needed nearly every second to top Carlos Santana in the first round before ousting Ronald Acuna Jr. and then Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the final round. The fact that Alonso was able to outlast Guerrero, who dominated the competition up to the final, was an impressive feat. It remains to be seen whether the Home Run Derby will hamper the rookie in the second half. He will take a .280 average and 30 home runs into the next half of the season beginning Friday.
