6 years agoBaltimore Orioles designated hitter Pedro Alvarez was designated for assignment on Tuesday and catcher Caleb Joseph was called up in his stead. Alvarez was in the midst of his worst season to date, hitting a paltry .180 with eight homers and 18 RBI while almost exclusively facing right-handed pitching. Alvarez will likely get a chance to latch on somewhere in the minors, but his days as a contributor to a major league time might be numbered.--Matthew Sparrow
