Panthers To Release Cam Newton
5 years agoThe Carolina Panthers are expected to release quarterback Cam Newton as soon as Tuesday, according to sources. The writing was on the wall when the Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater to be their starting signal-caller last week. Carolina tried to send Newton to either the Bears or Chargers in a trade, but they have gone in other directions and no starting jobs are really available around the league. The Panthers will have just $2 million in dead money with his release. Coming off a season where he played just two games due to a foot issue and with the NFL's doctors shutting down physicals due to the coronavirus, it may be a while before he lands on his feet with another team, and it remains to be seen if he'll have a shot at a starting job. The Chargers and Patriots might be his best options. The big question is whether Newton can bounce back from shoulder and foot injuries the last two years. Fantasy owners probably won't want to bet on it in 2020, depending on where he winds up.
