Panthers Acquire Sam Darnold From Jets
4 years agoThe Carolina Panthers are acquiring quarterback Sam Darnold from the New York Jets on Monday in exchange for a 2021 sixth-round draft pick and second- and fourth-round picks in 2022, according to sources. The move basically means that the Jets will take BYU quarterback Zach Wilson with the second overall pick as their next QB of the future, with the Jacksonville Jaguars widely expected to select Clemson's Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall selection. Meanwhile, in Carolina, we could have a competition this summer between Darnold and Teddy Bridgewater, who was mostly a disappointment in 2020. Darnold has been a big disappointment in New York in three seasons after being the third overall pick in 2018, but in his defense, he hasn't exactly had tons to work with on offense. He'll have a much better backfield situation in Carolina with Christian McCaffrey in the fold, but the jury is still out on Darnold and whether he can become an effective real-life and fantasy QB in his new home.
