3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey is set up for a strong performance in a Week 17 Saturday game against the New England Patriots. McConkey has been a top-25 fantasy receiver for five straight games (skipping Week 14, where he did not play), and should be right in those same rankings again this week. The Patriots defense has been pretty generous to opposing wide receivers, and McConkey should once again be the focal point of the Chargers offense, especially with injuries in the running game making it likely that the Bolts will need to pass early and often. McConkey has a high floor like usual with an even higher ceiling than most weeks.Source: Rotoballer
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Hassan Haskins could have a larger role than usual in a Week 17 game against the New England Patriots. With Gus Edwards (ankle) ruled out and J.K. Dobbins (knee) questionable after missing the past four games, Haskins and rookie Kimani Vidal could split the backfield in a game in which the Chargers are favored. If Dobbins is able to play, Haskins likely won't have fantasy value, but if it gets down to just Haskins and Vidal, both should have decent floors with higher ceilings than usual.Source: Rotoballer
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers rookie running back Kimani Vidal could end up in the starting role in a Week 17 game against the New England Patriots. Starter J.K. Dobbins (knee) has missed four games and is listed as questionable for this matchup and fill-in starter Gus Edwards (ankle) has already been ruled out. There's a chance that Dobbins is able to return and if he does he'll likely lead the backfield, but if Dobbins is also ruled out or limited in the game, Vidal would rise to the top of the depth chart and share it with Hassan Haskins. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on pre-game warmup reports, if Dobbins can't suit up, Vidal could be a solid RB2 option with a rather high floor.Source: Rotoballer
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has a good matchup against the New England Patriots defense in Week 17. The Bolts and Pats will play on Saturday afternoon in New England, where Herbert will look to build on his overall QB7 against the Broncos in Week 16. Herbert looked much healthier last week, showing much more mobility on his injured ankle. He did not appear on the injury report at all heading into this game, his first time totally off the report in weeks. With running backs Gus Edwards (ankle) out and J.K. Dobbins (knee) questionable at best, the Chargers may need to rely on the passing game even though they are favored in this game. Herbert has a nice ceiling in this one and a fairly high floor as well.Source: Rotoballer
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers tight ends Will Dissly (shoulder) and Hayden Hurst (illness) are listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the New England Patriots. Dissly has been unable to suit up the past two weeks but was able to log a full practice on Thursday afternoon, which is a promising sign. Hurst returned from injured reserve last weekend but could only practice once this week (in a limited capacity) due to an illness. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring their status before Saturday's kickoff. Dissly has shown flashes of potential throughout the season, as he averaged a solid 10.8 PPR points per game during Weeks 7 through 11. If Dissly can suit up, he should see a majority of the opportunities. If Hurst can also suit up, both will limit each other's ceiling. If both tight ends are eventually ruled out, Stone Smartt would get the starting nod and would be a viable low-end TE1 in deeper 14+ team formats.Source: Los Angeles Chargers
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins (knee) is officially questionable to be activated from Injured Reserve and play against the New England Patriots on Saturday. The former Baltimore Ravens' second-round pick has missed the last four games after suffering a knee injury but could return to action after logging two limited practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, he did not practice on Thursday, so he might be on the wrong side of questionable for Week 17. Gus Edwards (ankle) won't play against the Patriots, so if Dobbins is also out, rookie Kimani Vidal and veteran Hassan Haskins will likely share touches. All Chargers' backs are risky fantasy options given all the uncertainty.Source: Adam Schefter
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Gus Edwards (ankle) did not practice on Thursday and has officially been ruled out of the game against the New England Patriots in Week 17. Edwards had his most productive game of the season last week against the Denver Broncos, posting 71 total yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, J.K. Dobbins (knee), who has missed the last four games on Injured Reserve, is listed as questionable for Saturday's AFC showdown. If Dobbins is activated, he should be considered a risky RB2 option for the fantasy football season finale. If Dobbins can't go, rookie Kimani Vidal and veteran Hassan Haskins will likely share touches in L.A.'s backfield.Source: Adam Schefter

3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh announced on Monday that the team is opening up the 21-day practice window for running back J.K. Dobbins (knee) to return from Injured Reserve. It means that Dobbins will be eligible to return to practice with the team this week, although it doesn't guarantee that he'll officially be activated from IR and return to the field for this Saturday's contest against the New England Patriots. Fantasy managers will want to keep a close eye on Dobbins' practice status this week. If the coaching staff likes what they see from Dobbins from Tuesday through Thursday, they could activate him on Friday. However, if Dobbins returns, he could be at risk of being eased in and sharing valuable backfield touches with both Gus Edwards and rookie Kimani Vidal. With fantasy titles on the line this week, we're not sure we'd recommend starting Dobbins in what could be a limited role if active.Source: ESPN.com - Kris Rhim
3 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers defense had a tale of two halves in a Week 16 win over the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football. In the first half, the Broncos looked like they were doing whatever they wanted and the Bolts were completely unable to stop them or slow them down. They allowed 21 points in the first half and looked on their way to another blowout like the previous week's 40-17 drubbing by the Bucs. Instead, they came out much different in the second half and allowed only six more points total. They didn't record any turnovers but got two sacks and ended up with 27 points allowed, all of which was good for a one-point fantasy performance in standard scoring leagues. That's certainly not great, but it's a whole lot better than it looked like things were going at halftime. The Bolts should fare better in Week 17 against the New England Patriots offense.Source: ESPN.com
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker had an exciting and productive game in a Week 16 win over the Denver Broncos. Dicker made all four of his kicks, including an extremely rare fair catch free kick field goal from 57 yards out to end the first half. Dicker made both of his extra point tries, the 57-yarder, and added a 37-yard kick as well. The Bolts went for two on two of their touchdowns which limited Dicker's opportunities, but he was still nails every time he was called upon. He should remain one of the league's most consistent kickers in Week 17 as the Chargers will face the Patriots on Saturday.Source: ESPN.com
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston played an insignificant role in a Thursday Night Football win over the Denver Broncos in Week 16. Johnston tied for the team lead with six targets but made just three catches for a total of 18 yards. The biggest play of the game for Johnston was a dropped pass when he was absolutely wide open and given a perfect pass from his quarterback Justin Herbert. The same drop issues that plagued him throughout his rookie year clearly remain this season despite marked improvement in his overall game. He'll look to bounce back rather than have the ball bounce off his hands in Week 17 against the New England Patriots.Source: ESPN.com
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Derius Davis scored a key touchdown in a Week 16 win over the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football. Davis appeared to be much more involved in this game, recording one carry and two targets, but shuffling around in the backfield several more times throughout the game. Davis scored his touchdown on a perfect 19-yard pass from Justin Herbert in the fourth quarter. In total, he lost three yards on the ground with his one rush but gained 31 yards through the air with his two catches. Davis was an important part of the Chargers win but is unlikely to develop much fantasy value for the remainder of the season.Source: ESPN.com
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers tight end Stone Smartt made three catches on three targets in a Week 16 win over the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football. Smartt got another start with Will Dissly (shoulder) still unavailable. The Bolts did activate tight end Hayden Hurst before this game, but Smartt was still the clear starter at the position. With his three catches, Smartt gained 37 yards with a long gain of 19. He's been a solid contributor since joining the starting lineup and should continue as a solid TE2 option as long as Dissly remains out.Source: ESPN.com
