1 day agoAthletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom continued his hot start at the plate in Tuesday's 12-3 win over the White Sox. Soderstrom went 3-for-5 with a single and a pair of three-run home runs. The 23-year-old lined a first-inning Sean Burke hanging curve just over the right-field wall, and he later launched a sixth-inning Penn Murfee offering deep into the right-field seats. The former fantasy prospect has started to make good on the promise he offered, slashing .328/.403/.734 with a league-leading eight HR to go with 17 RBI in 72 plate appearances. He is currently rostered in 85 percent of leagues, so he may still be available for fantasy managers looking for higher-end power.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

1 day agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll continued his power surge in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Marlins. Carroll went 2-for-5 with a double, a grand slam, and five RBI. The 24-year-old clobbered a sixth-inning George Soriano fastball into the right-field upper deck to put the D-backs ahead 10-1. Surprisingly, Carroll's main fantasy attribute so far in 2025 has switched from speed to power, as he is slashing .338/.423/.735 with six home runs, 15 RBI, and one stolen base in one attempt. This may not have been what fantasy managers expected from him, but they can't complain about his overall production. His speed is still a major threat, and he has plenty of time to accumulate stolen bases.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

1 day agoThe Philadelphia Phillies announced on Tuesday that infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson's (oblique) minor-league rehab assignment has been moved to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Wilson began the 2025 season on the injured list due to a strained left oblique that he suffered in spring training, but the 30-year-old veteran is progressing on his rehab assignment and should be an option for the big-league roster as outfield depth before the end of April. In four rehab games to this point with Single-A Clearwater, he has just one hit in 10 at-bats with a stolen base, four walks and three runs scored over 14 plate appearances. Wilson was scheduled to play nine innings at second base on Tuesday at Lehigh Valley before most likely seeing action in the outfield later this week. In 40 games with the Phils in 2024, Wilson hit .284/.347/.489 with an .836 OPS, three homers, 10 RBI and three steals in 98 plate appearances.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Philadelphia Phillies

1 day agoThe Cincinnati Reds announced on Tuesday that they optioned infielder Noelvi Marte to Triple-A Louisville. Marte was one of the odd men out with infielder Matt McLain (hamstring) and outfielder Austin Hays (calf) both returning from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Marte was brought up to Cincy as infield depth when McLain landed on the injured list, but the 23-year-old only appeared in three games and went 1-for-6 at the plate with a steal, two runs scored, and a walk in seven plate appearances. He'll now head back to the farm and bide his time there before eventually getting another shot in the big leagues with the Reds at some point this year. Marte was suspended 80 games last year, and when he returned, he really struggled at the plate. He has an intriguing power-speed combination, but he's facing an uphill battle for playing time in the majors.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Cincinnati Reds

1 day agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates placed catcher Endy Rodriguez (finger) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday after he exited Monday's contest against the Washington Nationals with a right index-finger laceration that required stitches, sources told MLB.com's Alex Stumpf. In a corresponding move, the Pirates recalled right-hander Chase Shugart from the minors. Shugart threw 3 2/3 scoreless relief innings for the Bucs in his first stint with the team. With Rodriguez now on the IL and Joey Bart still nursing a back injury, Henry Davis got the start behind the dish on Tuesday and went 1-for-3 in the 3-0 loss. The fact that the Pirates didn't call up an additional catcher suggests that Bart is getting close to a return. The 24-year-old switch-hitting Rodriguez started the year 8-for-45 (.178) with no home runs, three doubles and two RBI and will be a backup catcher/first baseman when he returns from the IL.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Alex Stumpf

1 day agoMLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports that Milwaukee Brewers right-handed reliever Trevor Megill (knee) was available to pitch in Sunday's series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks and in Monday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers. Megill blew the save and took the loss against Arizona on Saturday by allowing three earned runs on two hits while walking three, and then he revealed that he recently underwent an MRI exam on his knee. After seeking a second opinion, the 31-year-old veteran is apparently alright to continue pitching, but he has not appeared since his blowup outings on Saturday. Megill's performance is worth keeping a close eye on after his knee injury, but as things stand now, he should still be considered the Brewers' favorite for save opportunities. However, he has only one save so far in 2025 to go with a bloated 5.79 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in 4 2/3 innings.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Adam McCalvy

1 day agoMilwaukee Brewers right-hander Tobias Myers (oblique) is scheduled to throw 65 to 70 pitches in his next minor-league rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Nashville, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. After that, Myers could return to the major-league starting rotation to face the San Francisco Giants next week. The 26-year-old's rehab start on Friday will be his third after working his way back from a left-oblique strain that he suffered in mid-March in spring training. Although he only struck out three total batters, Myers looked sharp in his first two rehab starts, allowing three earned runs on eight hits while walking three in 8 1/3 inning pitched. Myers was great down the stretch for the Brew Crew and finished with an impressive 3.00 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, but he had a below-average strikeout rate, which will limit his chances for a breakout in 2025. Still, he's worth a look for rotation depth in deep-mixed leagues if he's available.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Adam McCalvy

1 day agoMilwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch four innings in his next minor-league rehab start on Thursday for Triple-A Nashville. After that, Woodruff will be scheduled for some five-inning outings to ensure that he keeps bouncing back, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. In his first rehab start on Saturday for Nashville, Woodruff gave up two earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out five in 3 2/3 innings. The 32-year-old veteran missed the entire 2023 campaign after having right-shoulder surgery, so his fantasy value is going to be limited while on an innings limit in 2025 whenever he returns. Barring a setback with his shoulder, though, Woodruff should be ready to make his season debut in early May. He was an ace prior to his shoulder injury in 2023, making him worth stashing in all fantasy leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Adam McCalvy

1 day agoLos Angeles Dodgers right-hander Bobby Miller will be called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City to make the start against the division-rival Colorado Rockies on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium. Miller will be making his first big-league start of the 2025 season after struggling to the tune of an 8.52 ERA (6.97 FIP), 1.77 WHIP and 52:30 K:BB in 13 starts over 56 innings in his second major-league season with L.A. in 2024. The 26-year-old only allowed three earned runs in 12 innings over three appearances (two starts) for OKC while striking out 11, but he also walked 11. The matchup will be an excellent one on Wednesday in his spot start against the last-place Rockies, but he'll be a volatile fantasy streamer in deeper leagues and for those playing DFS. In his rookie year in 2023, Miller had a 3.76 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 119 K's and 32 walks in 22 starts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Los Angeles Times - Jack Harris

1 day agoDetroit Tigers right-hander Keider Montero is with the team in Milwaukee and will make the start on Wednesday at American Family Field. Nobody else in the starting rotation is hurt, but manager A.J. Hinch wants to push the rotation back a day during a 23-game, 24-day stretch of games. The 24-year-old Montero will be making his first big-league start of the year for the Tigers after going 6-6 with a 4.76 ERA (5.15 FIP) and 1.33 WHIP with 77 strikeouts and 31 walks in 19 outings (16 starts) over 98 1/3 innings in his rookie season in 2024. The Venezuelan hurler started the year off at Triple-A Toledo by giving up three earned runs on six hits while walking only one and striking out 11 in 9 2/3 inning in his two starts with the Mud Hens. Montero has high-end potential but didn't strike out that many a year ago and was unsurprisingly inconsistent. He'll be a pretty shaky fantasy streamer in Milwaukee.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Detroit News - Chris McCosky

1 day agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Matt Wallner (hamstring) was removed from Tuesday's 6-3 win over the New York Mets early due to left-hamstring tightness, according to the team. Wallner injured his hamstring in the first inning on an infield single and was replaced by pinch-runner DaShawn Keirsey Jr. At the very least, Wallner will probably be out of Wednesday's contest against the Mets, and it's possible he could miss much more time, depending on the severity of the injury. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Wednesday for more information on his injury. The 27-year-old entered Tuesday's contest with a .250 average (14-for-56) with one home run, three RBI and seven runs scored in 17 games as an everyday starter in the outfield. If Wallner is forced to miss extended time due to his hamstring injury, Harrison Bader would likely be the beneficiary of extra playing time.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Betsy Helfand

1 day agoMinnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (wrist) left Tuesday's 6-3 win over the New York Mets early due to left-wrist soreness, according to the team. Correa appeared to injure his wrist after taking a swing in the fifth inning. The 30-year-old went 1-for-2 with an RBI before departing. Willi Castro moved from third base to shortstop after Correa's injury, with Brooks Lee entering the contest to play third base. Correa will likely go for testing after the game, at which point we should have a better idea of the severity of his wrist injury on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. It's certainly a concerning development for the Twins, especially since Matt Wallner (hamstring) also left this game with an injury. In addition to his injury, Correa entered Tuesday's game hitting just .153 (9-for-59) with no home runs. Lee would be in line for regular playing time if Correa is forced to the injured list.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Betsy Helfand

1 day agoThe San Diego Union-Tribune's Jeff Sanders reports that San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth (ribs) could miss more than a month due to a non-displaced fracture in his ribs after he was hit by a pitch in Chicago on April 6. Cronenworth started the next two games against the Athletics but was pulled early in the second game before being placed on the injured list late last week. The 31-year-old probably won't be ready to be activated from the IL when he's eligible this Saturday, April 19. While Crone is sidelined, the light-hitting Jose Iglesias will see most of the action at the keystone, with the lefty-hitting Tyler Wade being another option. Fantasy managers stashing Cronenworth will need to be patient, as he might not be back until early May. He was hitting .257 (9-for-35) with two home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored in his first 12 games in 2025 before injuring his ribs.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Jeff Sanders

1 day agoSan Diego Padres right-handed reliever Bryan Hoeing (shoulder) threw another bullpen session on Tuesday and mixed in breaking pitches for the first time. Hoeing was placed on the 15-day injured list at the end of March after being delayed at the start of spring training with a right-shoulder injury. The 28-year-old is recovering from a strained right shoulder but appears to be getting close to going on a minor-league rehab assignment. If Hoeing can avoid a setback once he begins facing live hitters, he could return to San Diego's big-league bullpen before the end of April. After beginning last year with the Miami Marlins, Hoeing had a career-low 1.52 ERA and 0.80 WHIP with 18 strikeouts and five walks in 23 2/3 relief innings for the Friars in the second half of the season. Hoeing will return to a key setup role for SD when he's activated from the IL.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - AJ Cassavell
